Division 20 (Adult Development and Aging) is sponsoring student research awards for work on topics related to psychological issues in adult development and aging. The grants are funded by the Retirement Research Foundation.

Two awards are available:

  • Awards for completed research. The division offers $250 for undergraduate, $300 for master's, $400 for doctoral and $500 for postdoctoral research.

  • Awards for research proposals. The division offers $500 for undergraduate, $750 for master's, $1,250 for doctoral and $1,500 for postdoctoral research. Students who receive funding must be the principal investigator, conduct the research under the supervision of a professor or research adviser at a U.S. university and complete the research during the 2004-2005 academic year.

The division also sponsors the Margret M. Baltes Doctoral Dissertation Award in the Psychology of Aging. The $1,000 award is for candidates who will complete their doctoral dissertation between January 1, 2003, and May 31, 2004, on any topic related to the psychology of aging and development.

To apply, send four copies of:

  • An abstract of your doctoral dissertation no longer than 10 double-spaced pages

  • A personal statement about the scholarly or applied merit and potential impact of the doctoral dissertation no longer than three pages

  • Your curriculum vitae

  • A letter of support from your doctoral supervisor

Apply for convention student travel award

Division 44 (Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Issues) announces its 2004 Student Travel Award, a $250 prize to help a minority lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered psychology graduate student travel to APA's 2004 Annual Convention in Honolulu, July 28-August 1.

Applications must include a curriculum vitae, a 300-word statement on how attending the convention would further the applicant's career goals and a letter of support from the student's adviser or major professor.

Apply for an international research award

Division 52 (International) offers annual awards honoring students' research and dissertations in international or cross-cultural psychology. The division also gives a mentor award to a student-nominated psychologist who has had an outstanding impact on an international student. Applications for all awards must be received by May 1. The awards are open to all members of APA, not just Division 52 members.
