Apply for social issues grants
APA's Div. 9 (The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, SPSSI) is offering several student funding opportunities:
-
The Grants-in-Aid Program offers up to $1,000 for graduate student research in social problem areas related to its goals. The program supports unique and timely research, underrepresented institutions and investigators, volunteer research teams and actual-not pilot-projects.
Applicants must be SPSSI members and may only submit one application per deadline. The program gives preference to students working on their dissertation. Proposals must be accompanied by an official university agreement to match the amount requested.
-
The division's internship program, offered in cooperation with a community or government organization, public interest group or other nonprofit entity, encourages psychological research in social issues.
SPSSI members who are college seniors, graduate students or first-year postdoctorates in psychology, applied social science and related disciplines are eligible for the internship. The awards range from $300 to $2,500 to cover research costs and community organizing.
-
The Clara Mayo Grant program supports masters' theses or predissertation research on aspects of sexism, racism or prejudice. Up to four grants are annually awarded for up to $1,000 each. Division members in graduate programs in psychology, applied social science and related disciplines are eligible to apply.
Applicants may not apply to the Grants-in-Aid Program and the Clara Mayo Grant in the same year.
For application instructions for all three awards, visit www.spssi.org. Proposals and applications are due May 1.
