The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced the appointments of two new members to its National Advisory Council, Keith Humphreys, PhD, and Edward K.S. Wang, PsyD. The council is a 12-member panel of experts that meets regularly to advise the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and SAMHSA's administrator on public health matters related to prevention, treatment and recovery support services.

Humphreys is an associate professor in the department of psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine and the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University. Wang directs the Boston Office of Multicultural Affairs and Department of Mental Health.

In addition, Anna Marsh, PhD, was named the director for SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. For the past year, Marsh has been acting director of SAMHSA's Office of Applied Studies. She has worked for SAMHSA and its predecessor agency, the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration, since 1985.
