WASHINGTON — The American Psychological Association offers complimentary registration to credentialed media for the purpose of covering the convention. The APA considers working press to include editorial staff of newspapers, magazines, medical and health care publications, broadcast outlets and some web-based media and blogs. TV camera operators and still photographers may also obtain media credentials if they can meet the same requirements for demonstrating that they are working for news outlets as described below.

A media representative must provide press credentials or identification indicating he or she is a working journalist to receive a conference badge. Identification can include a printed business card from a media outlet with your name and editorial title, a current editorial masthead with your name and title, or a copy of a bylined article dated within the last six months.

Freelancers must present a signed letter on company letterhead from an editor confirming assignment to cover the convention or a bylined story appearing in a verifiable print or electronic publication dated within the last six months.

Exhibitors and representatives of industry, marketing, advertising and communications/public relations firms or companies producing print or electronic materials for these purposes may not register as media. Credentials will not be issued to representatives of lobbying, special interest or advocacy organizations. The APA reserves the right not to issue media credentials to individuals who create content for commercial or personal websites, personal blogs, podcasts not associated with a verifiable news outlet; internet-based radio or television networks; contributing writers not currently under contract with a publication; or publishers, corporate officers, sales, advertising, public relations, technical support staff or any other non-editorial professionals.

The APA reserves the right to limit the number of press badges issued to a single media organization.

Any press registrant who sells, markets or represents a company for the purpose of obtaining advertising or subscriptions from any registrant or exhibitor immediately forfeits his or her media credentials.

The American Psychological Association, in Washington, D.C., is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. APA's membership includes nearly 118,400 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students. Through its divisions in 54 subfields of psychology and affiliations with 60 state, territorial and Canadian provincial associations, APA works to promote the advancement, communication and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives.
