LGBT resources

This webpage provides fact sheets, best practices and other resources for supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. The resources are organized around the recommendations of the Resolution on Gender and Sexual Orientation Diversity in Children and Adolescents in Schools the joint resolution adopted by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The recommendations and resources are to support implementation by education professionals and policymakers.

Pieces from the resource series, “Promoting Resiliency for Gender Diverse and Sexual Minority Students in Schools,” are provided where most pertinent in the sections below. The series is a useful stand-alone resource that was produced by Div. 16 (School Psychology) and Div. 44 (Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity) of the American Psychological Association.

Information about existing data collection efforts regarding LGBTQ youth as well as tools for including sexual orientation and gender identity in school-based surveys.

Resources for bullying prevention and intervention:

Many types of resources for understanding school connectedness and specific issues related to this concept faced by LGBTQ students as well as for increasing school engagement among LGBTQ youth through curricula, additional programming and school-wide campaigns.
