Description
This program presented by Carlo DiClemente, PhD, ABPP, and hosted by Bruce Liese, PhD, describes and demonstrates screening and brief intervention strategies that can be used to identify risky involvement with alcohol, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, tobacco, nonprescription medications and gambling behaviors. Most effective referral options are also explored. The program will enable psychologists in a variety of settings to address and manage client substance misuse and problems with addictive behaviors more efficiently and effectively.
This product is not included in the APA Unlimited CE program.
Learning objectives
- Identify and use brief screening algorithms for a range of addictive behaviors (alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, nonprescription use of prescription medications, and gambling).
- Provide feedback about screening data and offer a brief intervention to address positive screens.
- Provide advice, negotiate goals, and offer referrals for further assessment and/or treatment.
