James Gross, PhD, a psychology professor at Stanford University, will receive the 2025 Grawemeyer Award in Psychology. Gross was recognized for being a leader in the field of emotional regulation, from developing the process model of emotion regulation to his studies in the ways people manage their feelings. His theory was modulating one’s feelings before an emotional reaction presents a healthier approach than trying to manage them after the fact.

Greg Hajcak, PhD, the Sheri Sobrato Endowed Chair and Professor of Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Santa Clara University in California, has been awarded a 3-year, $3 million grant from the state of California to tackle an escalating youth mental health crisis with a particular focus on depression among LGBTQ+ youth. The project will evaluate two promising online approaches—a novel digital application and telehealth-based peer counseling—tailored for LGBTQ+ youth to reduce their experiences of depression.

Amity Noltemeyer, PhD, has been promoted from interim dean to permanent dean of the College of Education, Health, and Society at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Prior to her interim appointment, she served as associate dean of the university’s graduate school.

Joseph Keaweʻaimoku Kaholokula, PhD, a professor and department chair of native Hawaiian health at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, was one of 100 new members inducted into the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). Kaholokula, recognized by NAM for his “pioneering evidence-based interventions using Indigenous cultural values and practices,” is believed to be the first Native Hawaiian elected to the academy. His health disparities research focuses on identifying the biomedical, behavioral, and sociocultural factors associated with cardiometabolic-related diseases and developing and testing community-based interventions to address these diseases in Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.

Leapetswe Malete, PhD, an associate professor of kinesiology at Michigan State University, has been named president-elect of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity.
