Jasper Simons

Executive Publisher of APA’s Office of Publications and Databases

Simons As the executive publisher of APA, Jasper Simons oversees the Office of Publications and Databases and is responsible for the journals, books and database programs of the APA. APA publishes leading titles and resources, such as American Psychologist and PsycINFO. APA’s premier publishing program serves the dissemination of psychological knowledge worldwide. Simons, who has wide experience in the publishing industry, manages 93 scholarly journals in fields spanning the psychological sciences. Each year the office also publishes close to 100 books and videos for researchers, professionals and the public under its APA and Magination Press brands. The full books and video catalog includes more than 1,500 titles. 

Simons also oversees the business, operational and editorial aspects of APA’s research databases, including PsycINFO®, the world’s leading discovery platform for the behavioral sciences, and PsycNET®, APA’s online hosting platform for the latest research content from APA. In 2016 the Office of Publications and Databases launched APA Style CENTRAL®, a revolutionary new electronic resource for APA Style®, which is the only authoritative and complete online environment for teaching, writing, and publishing in APA Style. 

Prior to joining APA, Simons was a vice president of product and market strategy at Thomson Reuters. There he managed software solutions for publishers and associations, including ScholarOne Manuscripts, the premier peer review platform. Simons joined Thomson Reuters after leading product development for the professional division of SAGE Publications, and releasing an innovative platform for those interested in the social networks in national politics. 

Earlier in his career, Simons held a number of business and leadership positions with leading publishing companies. Simons was the vice president and publisher of the clinical oncology journals for the Cancer Information Group in Dallas. Simons also ran the journals division for the American Anthropological Association in Washington. Before that, Simons was the business manager for Elsevier’s ScienceDirect sales division in New York. 

Education

Simons earned an MA in political science and sociology from the University of Amsterdam and a BSc in management and organization from Van Hall Larenstein College.
