After valuable feedback from divisions and our mutual desire to strengthen the impact of our advocacy work and increase opportunities for new collaborations, we are excited to announce a new optional position for divisions: the Division Advocacy Partner.

APA Advocacy values your divisions’ expertise on issues important to the discipline and profession of psychology. Additionally, the recent cohort meetings with division trio representatives and APA leaders highlighted the desire from many divisions for stronger engagement with APA Advocacy. The Division Advocacy Partner will work to facilitate their division’s engagement with APA Advocacy. There would be one Division Advocacy Partner per division.

Our intent is to:

  • Create a long-term, bidirectional communication channel between APA Advocacy and divisions.
  • Help divisions leverage the infrastructure and brand that exists within APA central office on key issues.
  • Help divisions build more meaningful relationships with their members by giving them opportunities to pursue their passions.

A full description of the role (PDF, 50KB)opens in new window is available online. In summary, the role’s responsibilities include:

  • Responding to APA Advocacy’s requests for issue-specific feedback or helping identify division members who can respond.
  • Sharing advocacy-related requests from division members with the APA director of Grassroots Engagement.
  • Disseminating advocacy content, including action alerts, from APA Advocacy to the division.

This new position is intended to enhance, not supplant, existing collaborations and relationships between divisions and APA Advocacy.

APA Advocacy understands each division has different dynamics and organizational structures. We encourage you reach out to Doris Parfaite-Claude, director of Grassroots Engagement, to learn more about this new role and discuss how it could be adapted to best suit your division. If you have a selected partner in mind, please send the name, email address, and a short bio to Doris by July 29, 2022. Although we will onboard a division partner at any time, we encourage you to select one by the date above.

Thank you for your consideration of this important request.
