The Division Leadership Portal (DLP) is a great place to get your current membership lists, but there are other ways you can use it to engage your members.
- Welcome new members: Pull a list of new members and reach out to them to make sure they are maximizing their membership benefits. New members are “testing the waters.” Consistent engagement, especially during the first two years of membership, can turn a skeptical newbie into a lifetime member.
- Invite members to apply for fellow status: See who is a fellow in APA but not a fellow in your division. Recognition goes a long way in membership engagement. Help your members show their commitment to psychology by becoming a fellow of the division.
- Get students involved: Pull a list of student members and reach out to them regarding student benefits. (You can also select a different membership category to target other membership types.) Students are the future of the division. They are looking for networking opportunities, information about various branches of psychology, and resources to help start their career among other things. The more your division can meet the needs of students, the more likely it is they will stay with your division throughout their career.
- Encourage renewals: See who has not renewed and send them a personalized note to invite them to renew or rejoin. Thank those who have recently renewed. It’s easy to overlook renewal notices with so many competing demands for time. A personalized message from a colleague can make a huge difference in response rates.
- Check the dashboard: Use the dashboard view to gauge your membership health. Do you have more new members than renewing members? What was your membership number this year compared to last year? What categories have increased/decreased? Having a good sense of your membership status can help you decide on where to allocate your time and resources.
