The Committee on Division/APA Relations and the Division Engagement Office are grateful to have met with division presidential trio representatives again during our cohort series that brings together leaders from APA and divisions.  This fall, in preparation for the upcoming revision of APA’s strategic plan, we sought out insights from divisions leaders on the key issues facing psychology over the next 3–5 years.

A host of important topics arose. A few of the main themes that came up across the six meetings were:

  • misinformation, disinformation, and social media;
  • training and pipeline issues;
  • equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • basic science and research; and
  • masters and PhD level psychologists

Moving forward, be on the lookout for additional information as we continue to develop revisions to the strategic plan. Ultimately, the proposed revision will be presented to the APA Council of Representatives in February 2024.

Thank you to those divisions who participated in our cohort series this time around. You all have reported that these opportunities to connect are extremely valuable, and they are to APA as well. As such, we look forward to continuing these conversations and in early 2023 will begin planning for a session in the first half of the year. Please keep an eye out for more information on another opportunity to connect, engage, and strengthen the APA/division relationship through these sessions.
