The APA community has many potential benefits for divisions and is a great opportunity to better engage with members. The priority at this stage is to bring members on board and ensure they are actively involved.

Below are a few ways to attract and engage members:

  • Broadcast: Make sure to use other division communications (Listservs, newsletters, etc.) to point members to this online community.
  • Relevant/consistent content: In the beginning it’s best to have content ready to keep members engaged. Content can include a welcome message from a division leader, event/webinar information, or ask a question. Consistency with meaningful content builds confidence in this source for information and division news.
  • Recognize members: Highlighting members can be a means of creating content and attracting members. People will want to see who is being featured and learn more about those in their division.
  • Interact: As a leader, it’s best to set an example. To encourage engagement, it’s important for division leaders to reply to comments, answer post questions, and like member posts.
