Good things take time

It's important to remember that engagement takes time, especially when it comes to building an online community

The APA Community is a new benefit and although not seeing responses to posts can be frustrating at times, building engagement from members will take time and consistency. Efforts put forth are not fruitless even if it appears engagement has not taken off yet. Please keep up the great work and continue to post, like, and comment in the online community.

A couple things to keep in mind are below:

  • Communicate: Many division members have not logged onto the online community. Remember to let members know that this is an exclusive benefit for them. Consider telling your members why they should visit your community group. Do they receive different information than your listserv? Is it more efficient for them to only follow threads they are interested in? Let them know there is an app to easily access from their mobile devices.
  • Consistency: Fresh posts greatly improve engagement, especially during this early period of building a community. Members want to see activity, or they are much less likely to consider participating. The Division Engagement Office is at your service with ideas here and in the community group for division community leaders.

Please reach out to your Division Engagement liaison with any questions, trouble, or concerns—we are here to help.
