Why did you join the division?

Lakeiya Dulcio, MS I joined Division 35 in 2021 to support my professional development within women-centered and feminist psychology. Throughout my academic career, I have been deeply committed to expanding scholarship, clinical practice, and advocacy that center Black women’s lived experiences. My research and training emphasize intersectionality, misogynoir, and the psychological well-being of Black women, making Division 35 a natural home.

I assumed the role of student representative in 2026 and have been energized by the opportunity to collaborate with fellow graduate students, foster peer support, engage in research dialogue, and create space to discuss the unique intersections of being both graduate students and women. Since attending division meetings, I have found it refreshing and affirming to witness members’ authentic engagement and sustained commitment to intersectional feminism and social justice.

Who inspires you?

Ubuntu—“I am because you are.” I am inspired by generations of Black women and girls. From my grandmother, who emphasized the transformative power of education, to my mother, who reinforced that legacy, I now carry that wisdom forward for my own daughter. I am inspired by women who intentionally uplift one another through sisterhood, and by those who are underserved and underappreciated yet resilient. Their experiences motivate my commitment to providing culturally responsive psychological services and advancing research that honors their intersecting identities.

What advice would you offer to new members or new leaders/volunteers?

At a conference in 2025, I found myself as the only graduate student in my workgroup and questioned whether I truly belonged. During a brief conversation, Wendi Williams, PhD, reminded me that if you are in the room, you are qualified to be there. That affirmation became my mantra. I encourage new members and leaders to trust their voice, lived experiences, and training. Do not count yourself out of rooms designed for learning, contribution, and leadership opportunities.

What can you not live without?

PaperMate pens! I have at least 20 colors at all times.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I am a hyper-organizer. My immediate family’s name is all in alphabetical order. Between my husband, my children, and myself, all our names fall between the letters J-K-L-M-N-O-P.
