Why did you join the division?
I joined Division 19 because I wanted to get more involved in helping the military community through research, advocacy, and networking.
How did you become a division volunteer or leader?
Shortly after joining in 2016 a call went out for volunteers to serve on the newly reformed Diversity in the Military Committee (DMC). As my previous research and work experience focused primarily on issues of DE&I in the military, I was very interested in the position and was honored to be selected to serve as Chair of the DMC in 2020. I continued to stay involved with the division and was asked to serve as Membership Chair starting in 2023.
What are you or your division working on now?
Division 19 is working on a lot this year! A few of the main initiatives include a focus on increasing collaboration between disciplines and divisions, promoting awareness of military psychology, and increasing our international membership.
What’s something you want people to know about your division?
Members of Division 19 are passionately committed to serving the entire military community including service members, veterans, and their families. Our membership is very diverse, drawing from backgrounds in clinical, operational, industrial/organizational, and additional subfields of psychology to work to improve the availability and level of care as well as contribute to the growing body of psychological research relevant to the military, national defense, and national security communities.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Llamas are my absolute favorite animals! My dad took me to the Catskill Game Farm when I was 5, and it was love at first sight!
