APA Division Engagement and Public Interest held a 90-minute training for listserv moderators on addressing harm and discrimination on December 11, 2025. This was based on reports of discrimination and microaggressions, including antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia, and other harmful behaviors on APA division listservs.

Why a training session?

APA has heard from members in vulnerable communities that our listservs serve as vital platforms for connection, knowledge sharing, and debate across the field of psychology. Some members have reported experiencing discrimination and microaggressions, including antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia, and other harmful behaviors. While the APA listserv rulesopens in new window now more clearly define appropriate and objectionable content, moderators also need support in proactively fostering online spaces that promote belonging, trust, and community well-being—not just responding to problems as they arise. The training emphasizes how moderators can intentionally reinforce rules, cultivate inclusive dialogue, identify harmful dynamics, and foster healthy environments that reduce inequities and strengthen trust.

Trainer: Ryan C. Warner, PhD
