The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition, was released July 1, 2009. Sales of the fifth edition and sixth edition combined reached $12.6 million. The sixth edition of the Publication Manual was significantly revised to include new journal article reporting standards; an expanded emphasis on electronic formats and online communication; expanded ethics coverage; updated guidelines for bias-free language; new guidelines for reporting statistics; and significantly expanded guidelines for tables, figures, and references, along with all new illustrative material. Concurrent with the release of the sixth edition Publication Manual, fully revised versions of three other style products were released: the Concise Rules of Style, Second Edition; Mastering APA Style: Student Workbook and Training Guide, Sixth Edition; and Mastering APA Style: Instructor’s Resource Guide, Sixth Edition. In addition, a new APA Style website was launched to support the style products by offering free tutorials on APA Style, an online course, an APA Style blog, background resources and guidelines, and frequently asked questions fully updated for the sixth edition of the Publication Manual. Unfortunately, the sixth edition also had errors in three sample papers and 35 random typos, which required a return/exchange program.
