Electronic Resources

APA Style CENTRAL® (ASC) launched in July 2016 as APA’s premier online application which offers a suite of integrated services and tools designed to help students learn and apply APA Style®.

In 2016, several new features were introduced in PsycNET, including data sets; open access markers; journal title translations for non-English titles; medical subject headings (MESH); clinical trial numbers; detailed descriptions of dissertations with advisor names, degree earned, and institution name; new document types, and new population groups.

206,092 records were released into the PsycINFO database in 2016, bringing the total number of records in the database to 4,216,121. In addition, 7,179,987 cited references were released, bringing the total number of cited references in the database to 93,865,286.  The number of journals covered by PsycINFO at the end of 2016 was 2,471.  PsycINFO also includes the metadata records for the PsycARTICLES, PsycBOOKS, and PsycCRITIQUES databases:

  • 13,167 new records were added to the PsycARTICLES database, bringing the total metadata records to 348,239.
  • 47 APA books and 22 classic books, accompanied by 1027 chapter records, were added to PsycBOOKS. There are now 1,147 APA books plus 3,195 classic books on psychology in the database. At the end of the year, PsycBOOKS contained 4,330 books and 64,864 chapters.
  • 520 book and film reviews were added to the PsycCRITIQUES database, bringing the database total to 42,529.
  • The PsycTESTS database grew by 9,807 new records, totaling 42,548 records by the end of the year.  One of the major challenges facing this database is the difficulty of providing full tests -- survey data from PsycTESTS users indicated that this was the feature of the database they most valued. The percentage of records with full tests was 54%.
  • In 2015, re-evaluation of the PsycEXTRA database to identify opportunities for greater utility of resources resulted in the decision to make that database an archive for APA and APA-related content only. 2,560 such archival records were added to PsycEXTRA in 2016, including abstracts and presentations from the 2016 APA Convention..
  • Approximately 2,900 website pages were indexed in 2016 for APA’s public website, www.apa.org.  Much of this content is also archived in the PsycEXTRA database.

Sales and Marketing

In combination, all such efforts resulted in more than 28,100,000 promotional exposures for the year.

Through year-end 2016, the Exhibitions Marketing program has organized booth displays at 47 conferences, both in the US and internationally, with a combined attendance of about 2,258,600. Books and journals were promoted at an additional 54 conferences handled by outside vendors.
