About APA

Alex Siegel, JD, PhD, is awarded a Presidential Citation for his contributions in the area of interjurisdictional practice of telepsychology, especially during a period of time when the nation has been facing a public health crisis.

Siegel is a clinical psychologist and an attorney. During his professional career, Siegel served 13 years on the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology. In 2005 he was elected to the Association of State and Provincial Psychological Boards (ASPPB) Board of Directors and remained a Board Member until 2009. Since 2011, Siegel has continued to have a significant impact on the psychology regulatory community through the work he does as the director of Professional Affairs for ASPPB.

Siegel’s influence on the practice of telepsychology began in 2011 with his work on the ASPPB Telepsychology Task Force. This group was charged with drafting standards and guidelines around the use of technology in the provision of psychological services as well as exploring the use and impact of technology across jurisdictions. Since that time, Siegel has been involved with various efforts connected to the practice of telepsychology. This work has included working on joint telepsychology projects with various groups to include APA, providing education to state licensing boards and state psychological associations regarding the legislation that surrounds the use of telepsychology and being actively engaged with the development and expansion of the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact. As a result of this work, Siegel has been an individual that many professionals have sought guidance from during the pandemic, in an effort to better understand what a professional should know when considering the practice of telepsychology; especially, during a public health crisis. Those who have worked with him have found him to be assessable and eager to lend a helping hand.

Thank you, Siegel for your service to the profession.
