Alfredo Padilla López is presented with this Presidential Citation for his remarkable leadership in Mexican and global psychology.

Padilla López, professor of Psychology at Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC), has made innumerable innovative and substantive contributions to the advancement of psychology. He has co-led an integral Global Psychology Alliance (GPA) initiative to understand the meaning of psychology around the world. Drawing on perspectives from every continent, this project, already presented at three international conferences, will result in a video series to help understand and advance the meaning of psychology. He has also provided significant leadership in organizing the 2024 International Seminar on Psychology, Mental Health and Climate Change and the International Seminar on Mental Health and Education, which were held with the support of GPA members and participants from 16 countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Australia.

Moreover, Padilla López has displayed exemplary commitment to advancing the next generation of scholars. As part of the GPA’s Learning Leadership Institute, he has supported an Ethiopian mentee in building connections with scholars in Mexico, Chile, and South Africa, resulting in a publication, a tremendous accomplishment for an emerging psychologist in a part of the world lacking significant academic infrastructure. More generally, he has been the primary driver of a research initiative bringing together U.S. and Mexican undergraduate and graduate psychology students utilizing webinars, in-person visits, and other mechanisms to ensure that our neighboring nations can collaborate with and learn from one another.

For his many contributions to advancing our understanding and application of psychology, both locally and globally, this Presidential Citation is presented to Alfredo Padilla López.
