Andres De Los Reyes, PhD, was presented with this Presidential Citation for his leadership, research and commitment to improving children and adolescent mental health and for his dedication to preparing the next generation of researchers to work across disciplines to improve mental health outcomes for diverse populations.

De Los Reyes, professor of Psychology at the University of Maryland at College Park, currently serves as director of the Comprehensive Assessment and Intervention Program. As director, he has provided research training to hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students in the area of adolescent social anxiety and parent-adolescent relationships.

De Los Reyes is a stellar scientist who has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Institute of Education Sciences. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles on these and other topics, in such journals as the Psychological Bulletin, Psychological Review, Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Psychological Assessment, and Annual Review of Clinical Psychology.

His service to the APA also demonstrates his passion for education and professional development. In 2019, Dr. De Los Reyes served as Chair of the APA Board of Educational Affairs and continues to serve as a member. A fellow of APA Div. 5 (Quantitative and Qualitative Methods) and Div. 53 (Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology), he also serves as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.

In 2017, De Los Reyes founded and serves as program chair for the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology’s Future Directions Forum to further support the career development for a new generation of scientists dedicated to improving children’s mental health. The annual event delivers interactive professional development workshops that give attendees the tools they need to become strategic, successful scientists.

To broaden the dissemination of these skills, De Los Reyes published the Early Career Researchers Toolbox, which reveals keen insights into working with mentors, navigating peer review, and nailing the job talk that launches many research careers.

For all of his investment in the success for the best and brightest of the next generation, I am so pleased to honor him as one of psychology’s own best and brightest.

Thank you, De Los Reyes, for your contributions to psychology and the next generation of psychological scientists.
