About APA

The International Psychology Network for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Issues (IPsyNet) was awarded a Presidential Citation for organizing psychology organizations to support health and human rights, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics.

Since 2005, IPsyNet has increased levels of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) programming at major international psychology congresses from few to multiple day tracks of standing-room-only sessions. IPsyNet secured $450,000 in foundation support to expand capacities of member organizations, such as the Psychological Association of the Philippines and the Psychological Society of South Africa, to increase psychological knowledge of sexual orientation and gender diversity, apply psychological knowledge in support of the human rights and well-being of sexual and gender minorities, and increase the number of psychological organizations that develop and implement standards of care for LGBT people. IPsyNet contributed to public policy debate by delivering a joint letter to the President of Uganda, encouraging rejection of an “anti-homosexuality bill” and provided comments on revisions to the World Health Organization's International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems sections related to LGBTI concerns. IPsyNet, open to membership by national, multinational and international psychology organizations, is now poised to build on this foundation, for the betterment of all.
