About APA

In recognition of the commitment to supporting, empowering and preparing women psychologists to strive for leadership roles and strengthen the field of psychology, the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) is awarded a Presidential Citation. Since its beginning with the Committee on Women in Psychology, the LIWP has worked to advance APA’s mission of creating, communicating and applying psychological knowledge to benefit society.

With more than a decade of service, LIWP has become a community of almost 350 alumnae, more than 40 advisors, teaching faculty and staff from a wide range of professional settings such as academia, corporations, government, military, health sector and NGOs, in the US and internationally. LIWP alumnae have demonstrated their individual and collective leadership practice within their professional settings and beyond. Their lists of achievements is long, and their capacity to impact the future of our discipline is boundless.

The LIWP has set the standard for paving the way for the future of women psychologist leaders. In just the last year, more than 30 LIWP alumnae have been elected or appointed to APA leadership positions (Council of Representatives, boards, committees, division presidencies). As LIWP begins its second decade of enhancing the reach, influence and impact of women psychologists as leaders, its commitment to inclusiveness, diversity and excellence remains steadfast.

In acknowledgement and recognition of its determination and dedication to the advancement of women psychologists, I, President Rosie Phillips Davis, am honored to award the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology with this citation.
