Luis Carrizo, PhD, was awarded a 2022 Presidential Citation for his leadership role in the Global Psychology Alliance (GPA), particularly in connecting the GPA to the United Nations (UN) system.
Carrizo has served as Secretary General of the Coordinadora de Psicólogos del Uruguay, worked with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, and used his political knowledge to help GPA understand how to get psychological science into the hands of UN policymakers.
Carrizo has helped train GPA members from Namibia, the Republic of Korea, and elsewhere on how to connect with UN staff in their countries and has facilitated meetings with the UN resident coordinator in his own country of Uruguay. He has been a creative partner and leader in encouraging GPA’s understanding of global policy and utilizing that understanding to integrate psychological science into UN initiatives, for example, responding to remarks from the UN General Assembly President on a high-profile GPA climate change webinar.
For his role in connecting psychology to global policy, I am pleased to present Carrizo with this Presidential Citation.
