About APA

Mary Ann McCabe, PhD, was awarded a Presidential Citation for her tireless efforts to advocate for national, science-based policies and practices to improve the mental health of children, adolescents and their families.

McCabe's leadership has placed psychology at the forefront of the national debate on children's mental health care through her tireless advocacy and her efforts at the Institute of Medicine, Society for Research on Child Development, APA Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice, APA Interdivisional Task Force on Child Mental Health and Children's National Medical Center. She has spearheaded national summits to encourage collaboration among researchers from diverse disciplines, and among stake-holders from divergent sectors of society. McCabe has organized congressional briefings on behalf of psychology that translate psychological science for public policy-makers. She has worked closely with communication scientists to reframe developmental science to raise public awareness. Moreover, as an accomplished researcher, scholar, practitioner and professor in pediatric psychology at George Washington and George Mason Universities, McCabe epitomizes the kind of sage, masterful and exemplary role model that will inspire the next generation of psychologists to make a difference in the lives of individuals, organizations and society as a whole.
