Meltem Avci-Werning, PhD, is presented with this Presidential Citation for her outstanding leadership of organized psychology in Germany and her key contributions to the Global Psychology Alliance (GPA).
Avci-Werning has served as president of the German Association of Psychologists (BDP), maintaining an active leadership role through serious illness. Under her leadership, BDP focused on applying psychology to social issues, including combating prejudice against refugees and other vulnerable groups, providing mental health support during COVID-19, and mitigating climate change. Globally, Avci-Werning single-handedly represented GPA at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, raising the visibility of psychological science with international policymakers.
