About APA

Nancy Ann McGarrah, PhD, was awarded a Presidential Citation for her lifelong advocacy for the welfare of children, her leadership in the advancement of ethics and forensic applications to practice, and her contributions to APA and Georgia Psychological Association.

McGarrah has served psychology and the public throughout her professional career through her leadership in child custody practice and in advocacy for the welfare of children. She has served in innumerable capacities in APA and GPA governance and in family law venues. McGarrah championed the efforts for legislation in protection of children, receiving the APA Karl F. Heiser Award for her steadfast advocacy on behalf of psychology. McGarrah served two terms on  the APA Council of Representatives from Georgia. She served as chair of the APA Ethics Committee as well as the GPA Ethics Committee, advancing awareness of ethical issues in child custody evaluation and family law. She served as president of the Georgia Psychological Association and is a fellow of both APA and GPA. 

McGarrah is an active member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, and the National Association of Counsel for Children. McGarrah has played a critical role in the implementation of APA’s promotion of public education and the media at the state level. She has devoted countless hours for APA and GPA initiatives to educate and inform the public of the value of psychology and the importance of mental health to our communities. McGarrah is recognized by all who know her as a person who has devoted her life to the welfare of others and has made enduring impact on the profession and the public.
