Stephanie O’Malley, PhD, was awarded a Presidential Citation for her impressive leadership and landmark research in substance abuse.

Professor and deputy chair for clinical research in the Yale department of psychiatry, and director of the department’s Division of Substance Abuse Research, O’Malley has advanced our understanding of the prevention and treatment of addictions. Her research contributed to the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Naltrexone for alcohol dependence and opened up a major line of research on pharmacological and behavioral interventions. Having authored over 200 publications, she continues her scholarship as co-director of Yale’s Center for Translational Neuroscience of Alcoholism and co-lead of the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Scientist Training Program. Past president of the Research Society on Alcoholism, she has received numerous honors: Betty Ford Award, Dan Anderson Research Award and Joel Elkes International Award for Exceptional Contributions to Psychopharmacology. She has trained and mentored a large number of psychologists in research, clinical care and administration, rising to an executive leadership level within one of the nation’s premier academic health centers.
