Pascal Nery Jean-Charles, MA, was awarded a 2022 Presidential Citation for his pioneering psychology leadership in Haiti, particularly following political upheaval and natural disasters.
Jean-Charles studied in the Dominican Republic and Spain before returning to Haiti to contribute to his country. He has worked in the public and private sectors, notably co-founding and co-directing the first neuroatypical center in Haiti, La Petite Chenille, serving as chairman of the Board of the Haitian Foundation for Learning Disorders, and serving as President of the Association of Haitian Psychologists (AHPsy).
Under Jean-Charles’ leadership, AHPsy partnered with the Pan-American Health Organization to provide exceptional psychosocial support to local populations following a political assassination and multiple natural disasters. AHPsy conducted psychoeducation, hosted workshops, and held individual consultations, successfully developing mental health screening tools and helping people manage stress and trauma. The groups were able to extend impact by training community members to provide Psychological First Aid.
For exemplary dedication to the provision of mental health support in challenging circumstances, I am pleased to present Pascal Nery Jean-Charles with this Presidential Citation.
