This Presidential Citation is presented to Paul Berman, PhD., for his long, skillful and humble service to psychology especially the psychologists of Maryland.
Berman has served as the professional affairs officer of the Maryland Psychological Association for 25 years, addressing legal, ethical and legislative issues related to the practice of psychology. He served as liaison to state agencies, legislators, the business community, insurers and other provider groups. His achievements include designing and implementing an Access to Care survey which investigated access problems to mental health care in Maryland and insuring psychologists could be second signatories for inpatient stays.
Through his role as the “psychologist to call” for Maryland psychologists with questions or problems, his advocacy and education addressed issues of mental health parity, laws and ethics for mental and forensic professionals, child custody, federal laws, state laws impacting psychologists, measures of clinical quality, changes in DSM, CPT and ICD coding, insurance issues, ethics and recordkeeping. His clinical practice, focused on family law, served the community addressing child and family related issues including fitness to parent, child custody and sexual abuse evaluations and parent coordination.
In recognition of these and other contributions to psychology, I am pleased to present this presidential citation to Paul Berman, PhD.
