About APA

Randall P. White, PhD, was awarded a presidential citation for his leadership in consulting psychology and his contributions to the Council of Representatives and Board of Directors of APA.

White is founding partner of Executive Development Group and an international thought leader in the field of executive coaching and leadership development. He is Co-head of Leadership at HEC Paris, and Doha, and the TRIUM Global Executive MBA program. He also teaches with Duke Corporate Education, in Durham and London.

In 1987, White co-authored the best-selling business book, Breaking The Glass Ceiling: Can Women Reach The Top Of America’s Largest Corporations?; and in 1996, The Future of Leadership: Riding the Corporate Rapids into the 21st Century.

White also co-authored Four Essential Ways That Coaching Can Help Executives in 1998 and Relax, It’s Only Uncertainty in 2001, which culminated in the development of Ambiguity Architect, a 360 assessment that measures the ability to cope with uncertainty. Much of White’s work appears in multiple Western languages and Chinese.

White holds a PhD in social psychology from Cornell University. He is the former director of Specialized Client Applications at the Center for Creative Leadership, where he was responsible for all custom programs and executive coaching, and has taught at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell.

As past president of the Society of Consulting Psychology, Div. 13 of the American Psychological Association, a fellow in Divisions 1 and 13 of APA, a lifetime fellow of the American Psychological Society, a Salzburg Fellow on Women’s Issues and a past board member of the American Society for Training and Development, White has continually participated in the advancement of consulting psychology for leadership development. For his efforts, he was awarded Div. 13’s highest honor of the RHR International Award for Excellence in Consultation.

As a founding member of the Council Leadership Team of the Council of Representatives of the American Psychological Association, White used his expertise in consulting psychology in his volunteer leadership roles as a member-at-large (2016−19) and then as chair (2021). He is a tireless advocate for “good governance,” mentoring, educating, and consulting with the members of the CLT and Council as they work toward becoming more effective in executing their duties in service of the APA.

Because White is a true champion for APA and consulting psychology, he was awarded this 2021 Presidential Citation.
