Professor Richard Sipe and Marianne Benkert Sipe, PhD, have dedicated their lives to assisting children of both sexes who have been exploited and molested by priests of the Catholic church. They have written, presented and made court appearances in an effort to reveal and correct this hidden wrong that has powerfully harmed, not only American children, but, sadly, also children of the world. Dedicated Catholics, they have endeavored to restore their church to the morality they have always known it should represent.
With this Presidential Citation, we acknowledge the invaluable contribution and sacrifice made by Richard and Marianne Sipe in support of social justice, morality and especially in support of children.
