Beth Rom-Rymer, PhD, was awarded a Presidential Citation in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to the advancement of prescriptive authority for psychologists and her contributions to the Illinois Psychological Association.

Rom-Rymer was the principle force on a team that secured the passage of a bill authorizing appropriately trained psychologists to prescribe psychotropic medications in the State of Illinois. Her achievement establishes the credibility of psychologists as prescribers and further enhances the profession’s position as core providers in integrated healthcare. Rom-Rymer also infused new life into the Illinois Psychological Association, increasing its membership, fostering sound fiscal measures, recruiting a diverse cadre of new leaders and integrating members of minority communities into the life and agenda of the association. Rom-Rymer’s achievements extend beyond her work for prescriptive authority. Rom-Rymer is a national leader in APA governance, serving as a Council representative, caucus chair and as president of two APA divisions.
