Carol Webb, PhD, APBB, was awarded a Presidential Citation for her impressive efforts aimed at ensuring that psychologists are competent at initial licensure and remain competent to practice throughout their careers.
As director of the Emory School of Medicine’s APA-accredited internship for over 25 years, Webb has been instrumental in developing model approaches to preparing competent, ethical practitioners devoted to serving underserved, underprivileged populations. She served tirelessly and admirably on the Georgia Board of Psychology and as an officer and president of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. Her groundbreaking work on the assessment of continuing competence has impacted the way individuals are trained prior to licensure, and licensing boards can ensure the public that their licensees remain competent. Webb’s passion about continuing professional development has begun a “sea change” in the manner in which the profession understands its obligations to consumers. Her love for psychology provides the basis for her deep conviction that focusing on the maintenance of competence ensures the highest professional standards for psychology and offers optimal protection for the public.
