Susan F. Zlotlow, PhD, was awarded a Presidential Citation for her indefatigable efforts to ensure quality education and training.
For almost two decades, Zlotlow served as director of the APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation. She single-handedly advised generations of training directors, faculty, students, other professionals and members of the public about issues of educational quality. She did so not only with intelligence, skill and diplomacy far beyond most of us, but also with a fundamental integrity, ethical purpose and clear moral compass. Her knowledge of broad issues in higher education and their implications for psychology is encyclopedic, and she represented our discipline in numerous policy and legal venues. She did all this without ever seeking personal recognition or credit, preferring the focus to be on improving the field rather than improving her status in it. We honor her on behalf of all those who may never know her by name but whose education, training and treatment has benefited from her work.
