Approved by APA Council of Representatives, August 2024

This resolution focuses on the human rights violations that are systemically perpetrated against girls and women. Within this resolution, the language of girls and women is inclusive of transgender and gender-diverse children and adults who are impacted by systemic sexism via socialization or lived experience as a girl or woman.

Globally, human rights violations against girls and women affect the largest number of people, that is, 50% of the population. In 2024 the UN declared that girls’ and women’s inequality “remains the greatest human rights challenge” of our times and urged all to invest in women and accelerate progress (UN, 2024).
