APAGS Call for Proposals for the APA Convention

Steps for Submitting a Proposal

  1. Look for the APA Call for Programs supplement in the September issue of APA’s Monitor on Psychology or check the APA convention website.

  2. APAGS only accepts proposals for programs (symposia, conversation hours, and workshops) and posters (empirical, literature review, meta-analysis, theoretical, case study). For programs you may request 50 minutes or 1 hour and 50 minutes, however, due to limited programming hours, APAGS does not often accept programs that are 1 hour and 50 minutes. APAGS does not accept paper sessions.

  3. Read the APAGS call for proposals information and the associated “Frequently Asked Questions,” and assemble your proposal accordingly.

  4. The 300 word abstract limit is strictly enforced. Please submit a reference list along with your abstract, which does not count against the word limit.

  5. All proposals must be submitted online through the APA convention website. Be sure to select “GS” as the division to which you are submitting. Also, be sure to select “APAGS Member” rather than “student affiliate” if you meet the membership criteria in order to be eligible for the APAGS Member first author registration waiver.

Membership

All graduate student affiliates of APA are automatically members of APAGS. Undergraduate student affiliates may choose to join APAGS by paying an additional membership fee on top of their APA dues. You can apply online.

Ethics

All research submitted to APAGS must comply with the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct and must have already been approved by the author’s institutional review committee for research on human or animal subjects at the time of the submission.

Once You Have Submitted a Proposal

  • You will be notified that your submission has been received.

  • Notification letters will be mailed by late February. Proposals may be conditionally accepted. Conditions will be detailed in a provisional acceptance letter.
