The Commission on Accreditation (CoA) is actively recruiting individuals to serve as APA accreditation site visitors. As the “eyes and ears” of the CoA, site visitors play an essential role in collecting information about a program’s adherence to the Standards of Accreditation. Site visitor service is not only a meaningful way to give back to the profession but also a beneficial experiential learning opportunity.
Per the Accreditation Operating Procedures, site visitors are recruited as either health service psychologists who are trained and qualified within the scope of accreditation or as generalist psychologists who are trained and qualified in areas of psychology outside the scope of accreditation. More information about the qualifications for each type of site visitor can be found on the site visitor section of our website.
In addition to fulfilling these criteria, potential site visitors are also asked to attend an in-person training for which CE credits are awarded. These training are offered free-of-charge. Site visitor workshops will be offered for all levels of training (i.e. doctoral, internship and postdoctoral residency) for psychologists attending the 2018 APA Annual Convention in San Francisco, Aug. 9-12. Chair training will also be available for our more seasoned visitors. Information about registration is available on the Upcoming Accreditation Workshops webpage. Attending one of our workshops is an excellent way to connect with colleagues while also becoming part of our site visit corps.
Do you have questions about workshops or the site visit process? Contact our office at (202) 336-5979 or via email. We will be happy to assist with workshop registrations and questions about serving as a site visitor. The CoA has critical site visitor shortages in several key areas such as generalists and postdoctoral residency experts that you can help us overcome. Contribute to quality and excellence in education and training by joining our site visitor team.
