The number of APA-accredited programs has increased by nearly 20 percent in the last five years. During the same amount of time, the size of the CoA’s site visitor pool has remained steady. With many new accredited programs comes an increased demand for site visitors, and the CoA is actively recruiting visitors to assist with the increased workload.
There are two categories of APA site visitors: health service psychologists (i.e,. individuals trained in clinical, counseling or school psychology) and generalists (i.e., those who are trained in other, non-accredited areas of psychology). Specific criteria that must be met in order to join the site visitor pool can be found online. Those who meet all criteria and want to become site visitors must attend a training session. These sessions are free of charge and are held several times annually at training council meetings and at the annual APA convention. Participants receive continuing education credits if they complete the entire training session. You can find a complete list of 2019 trainings and information about registration online.
Becoming an APA site visitor is a great way to contribute to the profession and to become well acquainted with the CoA’s policies and procedures. The CoA is accepting nominations for site visitors in all categories and is currently experiencing a significant need for visitors with expertise in postdoctoral residency training.
