Many of us are proud to call APA Division 2 (Society for the Teaching of Psychology/STP) our professional home. If you are passionate about teaching, and seeking a supportive and inclusive group of colleagues, you have found the right place! In addition to their own areas of research expertise, many teaching-focused faculty have leaned into the scholarship of teaching and learning, which can directly benefit the students in our classrooms. With just over 3,000 members, STP is a division that is small enough to know the folks at your conference table and yet large enough to always learn from others and make new friends. We encourage you to join us (annual duesopens in new window range from $5 for members in non “high-income countries,” $20 for graduate students/retirees, and $35 for faculty).

While we provide a number of benefits for members (see below), most notably our members appreciate our websiteopens in new window which has free e-books, online access to the journal Teaching of Psychologyopens in new window, and information on thousands of dollars in grants and awards.

STP’s flagship, in-person conference is hosted every October in rotating cities. The Annual Conference on Teachingopens in new window is one of the best professional development opportunities you will come across. Where else can you enjoy keynote presentations and workshops on best practices, speed-mentoring, and trivia night? We would love to see you this year in Minneapolis on October 16-18! We also host a virtual conference in February which includes synchronous and asynchronous programming as well as networking opportunities.

Just as we would tell our students the best way to appreciate the college experience is to get involved on campus, we would also encourage any new or renewing members to get involvedopens in new window in your professional organizations. We have a number of committees and task forces that are seeking applicants. I (Stephanie) started by serving on our first Early Career Committee over 15 years ago, then as Secretary for the Executive Committee, and now as STP President. I (Danae) started out eight years ago as the director of teaching resources and am currently serving a second term on STP’s Executive Committee as Vice President for Membership. In fact, STP is where we met each other and many other great friends along the way.

Please check out STP’s websiteopens in new window for additional information on all the benefits we have to offer, including:

We would love to hear from you. Please reach out with any questions.
