Purpose
The purpose of this learning activity is to give your students an opportunity to develop their metacognitive skills (i.e., their ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate their learning processes), while also teaching classical conditioning. In order for this activity to have the most impact, you should explicitly discuss the role of metacognition in this activity.

Time Required
Students will complete this assignment out of class. Instructor should take 15 minutes to walk students through the assignment, to discuss metacognition and to provide an example of classical conditioning in an ad.
Task
Students will write a 2-3 page paper in order to demonstrate an understanding of classical conditioning and ability to identify it in real-world contexts. Students will respond to metacognitive prompts throughout the assignment.
Assessment
Accuracy in understanding classical conditioning and identifying it in real-world contexts.
