Description
Many cisgender clinicians wish to affirmatively treat gender-diverse patients, but we have often had minimal exposure to gender-related topics in our clinical training. It can be difficult to know what we don’t know, and our blind spots can cause inadvertent harm to our patients. This workshop is intended for cisgender professionals wishing to increase their competency in providing gender-affirming care to transgender, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, and gender-exploring children, adolescents, and adults.
Original webcast date: September 30, 2020
T/NB/GNC clinicians are of course welcome to attend, but emphasis will be placed on supporting other cisgender clinicians in acknowledging and addressing implicit cissexist bias in our work.
Topics will include:
- recognizing gender dysphoria and conceptualizing treatment;
- using gender-affirming language;
- acknowledging and dismantling implicit clinician bias;
- the role of the clinician supporting patients to access gender-affirming medical care; and
- special considerations for gender-diverse youth and families.
Learning objectives
- Develop increased capacity to affirmatively recognize and treat gender dysphoria.
- Identify implicit cissexist bias in treatment and practice structures.
- Identify ways to support patient access to gender-affirming medical care.
