Description
This workshop takes the view that the APA Ethics Code is a “living document” framed by fundamental principles (and their underlying assumptions) and meant to be flexible enough to meet challenges in practice and adaptable to address changes in our world. Competing ethical models and their goals are described. Fundamental principles and assumptions in the Ethics Code are reviewed to frame discussion of emerging issues driven by increasing population diversity; advances in technology, neuroscience, genetics; increased reliance on evidence-based practices; and, cultural changes. Case vignettes are used to illustrate how fundamental principles and emerging issues touch upon professional practice.
