Description

This workshop is an introduction to the major assumptions and practices of the single-session/walk-in (SST/WI) service delivery model. Most psychotherapy is brief, often fewer than six sessions—the mode is 1. Research has guided the development of services that are designed to provide SST/WI. Some agencies provide SST by appointment and others are in a walk-in format. Both are designed to increase accessibility of mental health services and take advantage of many clients’ initial high level of motivation. Common concerns about potential pitfalls of single-session work are addressed. Suggestions about how to incorporate SST into current practices are offered. This workshop is designed to also stimulate interest in further training and practice of single-session therapy.
