Description
As society continues to become more and more culturally diverse, mental health providers must continually engage in ongoing self-assessment related to knowledge, skills and abilities to provide culturally responsive care. This program will use a cognitive behavioral lens to discuss ways to increase cultural responsiveness of psychotherapy for anxiety and depression. We will focus on therapist and client variables, case conceptualization, therapeutic assessment, and resources for providers to enhance their clinical skills.
Learning objectives
- Define cultural responsiveness and cultural humility.
- Describe how therapist and client cultural characteristics and values impact the ability to develop a therapeutic relationship and treatment outcomes.
- Identify components of a culturally responsive cognitive behavioral case formulation for clients presenting with anxiety or depressive symptoms.
