Description
Mental health diagnoses are classified by DSM criteria, which categorize descriptions of “clinically significant disturbances in an individual's cognition, emotional regulation or behavior” (DSM-5). This approach neglects the examination of the organ that is typically producing the problem: i.e. the brain. This webinar will discuss how electroencephalographic brainwave analysis (EEG) and neurofeedback training offer significant improvement in clinical outcomes for mental health disorders. Examples of EEG analysis of anxiety disorders (OCD), depression, and trauma (PTSD) will be used to illustrate the power of EEG biomarkers to identify dysregulated brain activities that underlie these major diagnostic categories, which can be addressed with Neurofeedback Training.
Learning objectives
- Discuss three foundational aspects of brain activity analysis that augment the identification of mental health biomarkers.
- Identify specific biomarkers associated with common mental health diagnoses (OCD, depression, and PTSD).
- Discuss the power of neurofeedback brain-training to improve self-regulation in mental health disorders.
