Description

This workshop will first review different patterns or trajectories of outcome following potential traumatic events, noting that the most common pattern, typically, is a stable trajectory of healthy functioning, or resilience. I will further discuss how these patterns can inform clinical practice. Finally, I will show that a key component of resilient outcomes, one with further implications for clinical practice, is the concept of flexible self-regulation.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish prototypical patterns of trauma reactions.
  • Apply knowledge of divergent response patterns to clinical practice or in mental health settings.
  • Gain knowledge about response flexibility as a key component of resilient outcomes.
