Description
When we think of mental health treatment, we think of psychotherapy alone or combined with medication management. While many achieve good results from our approaches, far too many patients find themselves with lingering symptoms. Functional medicine for mental health is an emerging field that looks for the “root” physical causes of patients’ symptoms. Research in this area has identified the “common culprits” that cause mental health symptoms, but few providers test for, including vitamin and mineral deficiencies, food sensitivities, blood sugar imbalances, and more. This presentation will offer an overview of functional medicine for mental health and help you understand how this knowledge can help your patients get better mental health outcomes.
Learning objectives
- Identify three common root physical causes for mental health symptoms.
- Name two sources of inflammation linked to depressive symptoms.
