Description

Presenter disclaimer: Aaron Goldman, PhD has a working relationship with DNALabs and as such has both a financial and an intellectual interest in the program content. The purpose of this CE session is to provide a balanced view of the role of pharmacogenomics in mental health care and its application in clinical practice.

This webinar will only be available live. To earn CE credit, you must attend the live event, as an on-demand version will not be made available.

This program explores the role of pharmacogenomics in mental health care and its application in clinical practice. Participants learn how genetic variation influences medication response, including drug metabolism, efficacy, and risk of adverse effects. The program introduces Foundations of Pharmacogenomics, a clinical tool that helps identify gene–drug interactions to support more informed prescribing decisions. Emphasis is placed on interpreting results and integrating them into treatment planning to guide medication selection, dosing, and risk mitigation. Practical implementation strategies are discussed, including incorporating testing into clinical workflows, communicating results to patients, and collaborating with prescribers. Participants also explore how offering pharmacogenomic testing can enhance service delivery while creating an additional revenue stream within their practice. Designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals seeking evidence-informed approaches to improve patient outcomes.

Program disclaimer: This CE session is paid for by DNALabs and does not reflect the views of APA or its editorial staff. Email CPE to learn more. DNALabs is dedicated to the new frontier of genome laboratory testing and the transformation to personalized medicine with developing affordable and cutting-edge genetic testing products.

Learning objectives

  • Describe how genetic variation can impact pharmacokinetics in psychiatric medication response.
  • Explain how pharmacogenomic testing (e.g., Foundations of Pharmacogenomics) can inform medication selection and dosing.
  • Identify how pharmacogenomic insights can be applied to enhance treatment planning and improve clinical outcomes in mental health care.
