Description
This webinar discusses how hypnosis can be used to control acute pain and manage chronic pain. For managing chronic pain, hypnosis is used in an eight-module psychotherapeutic approach that is combined with meditation, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral approaches. A biopsychosocial assessment is used to assess and inform the use of hypnotically informed psychotherapy for chronic pain. The hypnotic approaches will be presented in easy-to-follow sequences that will require no previous experience with hypnosis. The webinar is based on the APA book Clinical Hypnosis for Pain Control (2nd ed.) 2024.
Learning objectives
- Describe the difference between acute and chronic pain and how hypnosis is used to treat both challenges.
- Articulate eight modules of psychotherapy that are informed by hypnosis and used to manage chronic pain.
- Perform two types of hypnotic inductions that can manage chronic pain.
